Good news from Dovado this morning that support for some Sierra modems, notably the Sierra Compass 888 as used by many O2 customers in Ireland, will be included in the next Dovado UMR firmware update likely to be released in April 2009.
Dovado have been working particularly hard on getting their USB Mobile Broadband Router (UMR) to take full advantage of the Sierra modem’s download speeds. A spokesperson said they are happy that the three key features (download, upload and SMS functionality) are working well. The firmware supporting the Sierra 888 was released on 27 April 2009.
The new firmware update adds support for a dozen other modems and resolves a number of bugs. For more information and to download the firmware, visit the Dovado website at http://www.dovado.com/UMR_Firmware.html.
